The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced that it would begin an enhanced compulsory medical examination for all foreigners seeking to work and stay in Ghana.This new directive becomes an addition to the already existing medical examination done by the GIS on foreigners seeking work and residential permits.The directive which is expected to take effect from June 15, 2020, would include testing for COVID-19 and would cover other permits such as Indefinite Residence, Right of Abode and Naturalization, as well as renewal of other Residence permits. The GIS added that the enhanced mandatory medical examination, would not only help streamline and regulate the issuance of Work, Residence and other permits in the country but to also safeguard public health and security. The directive would also help obtain information on the health status of immigrants.All medical examinations for the permits would be done at the GIS Clinic located at its national headquarters in Accra.
