Whilst there is no known record that suggests that there is a connection between Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his predecessor, Laurent Gbagbo but some cryptic reports are rife that they are connected strongly behind closed doors with a series of tete-a-tete and negotiations however,
one other source indicates that Ouattara has elicited the support of Mahamadou Issoufou to relay a message to Luarent Gbagbo in exchange for the latter’s neutrality through the end of the elections slated to come off on October 31 moreover, Ouattara is ready to grant pardon to Gbagbo in the case involving the latter found guilty of pocketing public funds from the Central Bank of West African States whilst Laurent Gbagbo denies any wrongdoing.
It is noteworthy that in the interim, Gbagbo has not given a clear answer to the offer made however, it is obvious that given Gbagbo’s resilience, he will not accept such an offer. The former leader who is still standing trials on the charges of crimes against humanity, illegal appropriation of arms and misappropriation of funds had requested to return to Ivory Coast to file his candidacy to contest the elections but whilst he does not remain oblivious of the fact that the constitutional court shall shoot down his presidential bid due to his conviction in Ivorian courts, he has become heavily engaged in a creating a coalition with Henri Konan Bedie.
